Five Reasons To See….Secret Thoughts

Actress Kate Coogan is no stranger to the North West stage – having performed in Oldham and Manchester in variety of productions including; Stepping Out, Top Girls and Babes In The Wood. She is currently starring alongside Rob Edwards in David Lodge‘s Secret Thoughts at the Bolton Octagon which is directed by David Thacker. We asked Kate to give us Five Reasons why you should see this new play.

1. See It First!
Secret Thoughts is a brand new play by David Lodge, adapted from his acclaimed novel Thinks… The Octagon is delighted to be presenting this World Premiere in Bolton and we’ve been lucky enough to have David Lodge in attendance for some of the rehearsal period – a fantastic experience.

2. David Lodge – the Writer
David is one of the UK’s foremost writers whose astonishing career has spanned more than fifty years. He has won countless awards, including Royal Television Society’s Award for Best Drama (Nice Work) and the Whitbread Book of the Year (How Far Can You Go?). David is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Literature and was Chairman of the Judges for the Booker Prize for Fiction in 1989. He was awarded the CBE for his services to literature in 1998 and has been shortlisted for the Booker Prize on two occasions.

3. Witty and fun
A two-hander, the focus of this play is on the two characters; Helen Reed and Ralph Messenger. They are opposites in every way who clash over their intellectual thoughts and beliefs but whose attraction to each causes sparks to fly as their relationship develops… it’s a battle of wits and a struggle between the body and the mind.

4. Thought-provoking look at relationships dealing with real adult issues
Secret Thoughts takes a look at the complications that occur in real-life, adult relationships. Extra-marital affairs, bereavement and sustaining a marriage are all issues that are thrown into the mix.

5. Elements of surprise – hot tubs and robots…
As strange as it may seem, both a hot tub and a robot feature in Secret Thoughts! You’ll have to come and see the show to find out why…!

Secret Thoughts is at the Bolton Octagon from 12 May – 14 June.
