Matthew Goodgame On … An Evening of Dirty Dancing
Former Grease star Matthew Goodgame is currently performing at various tour dates in the show – An Evening of Dirty Dancing – The Tribute Show. It arrives in Liverpool (Crosby Civic Centre) tomorrow night and also takes in another North West date on 4 May at the Lowther Pavillion in Lytham St Annes. We caught up with Matthew to talk about life post Musicality and to find out more about the concert.
Why do you think the music of Dirty Dancing is so popular?
It brings out the rebellious side in all of us. They are timeless classics.
How does this piece compare to the musical version? What does it offer audience members?
An Evening of Dirty Dancing is a real celebration of the music from the movie with a few extra favourites. Audience members have no choice but to get involved.
What are your favourite songs from the show?
I can’t just choose one as I love performing them all and with each audience the reaction is slightly different.
Would you let anyone put you in the corner?
No – life is too short.
You have starred in great musicals including Chicago and Grease. What’s been your favourite role to date on stage?
Playing Danny Zuko was a special moment for me. I always thought John Travolta was the coolest and to play his character in Grease will never be forgotten.
What have you seen on stage lately that you loved?
Matilda was incredible.
Why should audiences come and see the concert?
If you are looking for an evening to let your hair down, sing the classic songs, relive the heart tapping moments of Dirty Dancing and have a fantastic night then you should definitely come and see the show.
What are your plans following this?
I’m a little superstitious when it comes to talking about possible events of the future but there are a few things in the pipeline. So stay tuned.
