Up On The Roof set for Oldham Coliseum

Oldham Coliseum follow And A Nightingale Sang with a tale set in 1975, following the lives ofn five students. Up On The Roof is set at Hull University as the protagonists meet on the roof of their student digs for the last meeting of ’The Roof Club’ – their a capella singing group who perform doo-wop covers of Motown and soul classics.

The next ten years sees how their individual journeys, successes and failures, are reflected in the changing relationships within this tight knit group of friends. The show features hits such as “Band of Gold” through to “What Becomes of the Brokenhearted” and “Never Can Say Goodbye” to “Lean On Me” – not forgetting the title track.

Oldham favourite Gemma Wardle returns to the Coliseum having starred in Sweet Charity, Union Street, and Jack and the Beanstalk (2007). 

New Wolsey Theatre’s Artistic Director, Peter Rowe, is directing Up on the Roof. He is joined by Howard Grey who is returning to the Coliseum as musical director. The show was first staged in 1987, and was nominated for the Laurence Olivier Award for Best Musical.

Up On The Roof runs at the Oldham Coliseum from 9th April – 1st May
