Bard’s Errors Follows 1984 to Exchange

William Shakespeare’s funny tale of mistaken identity The Comedy Of Errors continues the current Spring Summer 2010 season at Manchester’s Royal Exchange Theatre later this month. The Exchange is currently showing George Orwell’s 1984. directed by Matthew Dunster.

Guest Director Roxana Silbert is at the helm of the Bard’s Comedy. Silbert is former Artistic Director of Paines Plough and currently Associate Director for the Royal Shakespeare Company.

The play tells the story of two sets of identical twins – both master and servant – accidentally separated at birth. When they both arrive by chance in Ephesus, chaos ensues, leading to wrongful beatings, a near-seduction, an arrest and accusations of infidelity, theft, madness and demonic possession.

The cast includes Owain Arthur, Jan Chappell, Sam Collings and  Eleanor Fanyinka. The creative team is completed by Anthony MacIlwaine (design), Chahine Yavroyan (lighting), Steve Brown (sound), Anna Morrisey (choreography) and Giles Taylor (verse consultant).

The Comedy Of Errors runs at the Royal Exchange from 31st March until 8th May.
