Why I Cannot Wait for Book of Mormon

I make regular visits to the West End. Last year I saw Sweeney Todd, The Sunshine Boys, Matilda, Pippin, Master Class and Long Day’s Journey Into Night – amongst many others. Some great productions there but the nights out I always remember are when I see those ‘Jerry Springer – The Opera‘ moments. You know the shows that completely grab you by the wotsits and stun you. Don’t get me wrong, I like a traditional musical and play as much as the next person. But challenging productions like Angels in America, Jerry Springer – The Opera and The Pillowman always thrill me as they take you somewhere new.

So, I am counting down the days until I see Book of Mormon. I tried for Lottery tickets to see this much written about show when I was on holiday in San Francisco – to no avail. The excitement in the queue though, was unbelievable. People were lining up right around the block. I have read the reviews, listened to the soundtrack, spoken to people who have seen it and I now cannot wait.

I am hoping for a show which will make me laugh, send up the musical genre and take satirical swipes at some of the things we all love to hate. I may be building this show up but I have a feeling, it’s going to do all that and more. If it doesn’t? As long as there is one song as good as “I Just Wanna Fucking Dance” (From Jerry Springer The Opera) then I will go home happy.

Sad thing is, I have to wait until July. Bring on the Summer!
