Little Angel Theatre Co tour Goldilocks to RET

Little Angel Theatre Company have adapted Goldilocks from the classic fairytale and the show tours to Manchester next month.

Young Goldilocks likes to explore the world and experience new things, but when she wanders into an empty house, she finds much more than three bowls of porridge. Using table-top puppetry and musical influences from around the world, this production brings the classic girl-and-the-three-bears story to life, with lots of twists and surprises along the way.

Little Angel Theatre is one of only three building-based puppet theatres in England. Established in 1961, the 100 seat theatre stands side-by-side with the workshop, where all new productions and puppets are developed, carved and constructed. Little Angel Theatre is dedicated to the celebration and development of puppetry and live animation in all its diverse forms. Thus, it’s touring department is expanding nationally and internationally, visiting theatrical and non-theatrical spaces such as community centres and nurseries to make puppetry accessible for a wider scope of audiences.

Goldilocks is directed by Marleen Vermeulen, who is originally from Belgium and moved to London to work in children’s theatre. Marleen has worked as an actor with various companies, including Polka, Unicorn and Theatre Rites, where her interests in puppetry grew. She set up her own company Tam Tam Theatre in 1993, which is dedicated to developing and presenting high quality multi-cultural theatre for young children, and more recently for babies. Marleen previous directing credits for Little Angel Theatre include Handa’s Surprise and Handa’s Hen.

The creative team is completed by Osnat Schmool (Musical Director); Candida Powell-Williams (Designer – Set, Props, Costumes); Roger Lade and Julie Lade (Designer – Puppetry); and David Duffy (Lighting Designer). The puppets are controlled by performers Krystle Hylton and Amanda Wright.

Goldilocks is at the Royal Exchange Studio Theatre from 7 – 8 March.
