Looking Forward: Bring on 2013

Happy New Year!  I hope that you had a great a Christmas. No sooner have you eaten the last mince pie and cleared away the plates of Turkey sandwiches – here we are looking forward. Let’s gaze into the crystal ball and see what we are looking forward to the most.

One Man, Two Guvnors at the Lowry
It may not star James Corden anymore but he has the perfect replacement in Rufus Hound. And we also have the talented and local lass – Jodie Prenger. Expect a laughter-fest.

Wicked at the Palace Theatre
This is a love/hate show but whatever your views, it’s a blockbuster of a musical and has the wonderful “Defying Gravity.” Travel to Oz without getting a train to London – brilliant!

The Glass Menagerie at the Bolton Octagon
One of my favourite plays of all time and the Octagon are bound to do it justice – given their success with Streetcar a couple of years ago.

Mother Courage and Her Children – Library Theatre at the Lowry
This unstoppable theatre company goes from strength to strength and has not suffered since moving to the Lowry. In fact – the productions seem to have more life here. Brecht’s war time classic is ideal material for this faultless company.

To Kill a Mockingbird – Royal Exchange Theatre
This gripping piece will be enhanced by this venue as it will be in the round, as we sit in judgement on the characters. A popular text with school children, this one is likely to sell out so get a ticket while you can.

The Kite Runner – Liverpool Playhouse
A powerful book and a mediocre film. But the material will be theatrical gold as it has everything an audience member could want. See this one before anyone else as the North West is one of the first to witness this popular novel transported to the stage.

There’s lots more to look forward to. To find out more, including news, reviews, blogs, prizes and interviews, keep us book marked of follow us on twitter @wosnorthwest

Happy theatre-going!
