WWDN present Spring Awakening at Unity, 2 Feb

What We Did Next, the latest up and coming theatre company in Liverpool have produced the opening production in the Unity Theatre’s spring season with their newest production of a multi-award winning Broadway and West End musical. The aptly named Spring Awakening, described as one of the most controversial musicals ever written, will be staged in February.

Once banned from the British stage due to its portrayal of adolescent sexuality and self-discovery, Frank Wedekind’s play of the same name has been retold by Duncan Sheik and Steven Sate using witty dialogue and an upbeat contemporary soundtrack, in stark contrast to the strict society of 19th century Germany it lays bare. A tale of innocence, corruption and the shattered dreams of youth, the fresh rock-musical approach of Spring Awakening bursts with energy and passion as it follows the journey of a group of teenagers discovering their sexuality against a backdrop of religious and parental repression.

What We Did Next is a charity theatre group based in Liverpool City Centre. Having performed a string of sell-out shows across the city since their conception in 2008, they hope to continue their success with this award winning show.

Spring Awakening is at the Unity Theatre, Liverpool from 2 – 5 February.
