Disney’s Fantasia has made its way to Birmingham’s NIA after a recent success at the Royal Albert Hall; this Midlands stop is part of its first UK tour. Presenting some of the most well known classical music, from Beethoven to Tchaikovsky, with a cartoon backdrop is a new approach to presenting classical music to diverse audiences that seems to work tremendously well.

With famous Disney backdrops projected on to a huge cinema style screen, the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra delight the incredibly diverse audience to a dose of magic in true Disney fashion. Conducted by Ludwig Wicki, this really is a unique opportunity to see some of Disney’s best loved characters as you’ve never seen them before.

While some of the cinema scenes feel drawn out and lengthy, the accompaniment from such a talented orchestra in Birmingham ensures there isn't a moment of dullness. My only suggestion to future concerts would be to utilise the local talent we have here in the city, as the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra would have been a terrific local addition to the concert.
