Casting announced for The Importance of Being Earnest

The production will open at Birmingham Repertory Theatre on 14 September

Casting has been announced for the upcoming production of The Importance of Being Earnest.

Nikolai Foster will direct the cast, which includes BAFTA and Golden Globe-nominated actress Cathy Tyson who will star as Lady Bracknell.

Darren Bennett (Dirty Rotten Scoundrels, Savoy Theatre) will play Lane & Merriman, and Angela Clerkin (Everyone, BAC) will play Miss Prism.

Oscar Wilde's comedy follows two bachelors who hope to marry society’s most eligible ladies, but instead get caught up in a web of mistaken identities.

Also appearing will be Edward Franklin as Algernon Moncrief, Dominic Gately as Dr Chasuble, Fela Lufadeju as Jack Worthing and Sharan Phull as Cecily Cardew.

The Importance of Being Earnest runs at Birmingham Repertory Theatre from 14 to 24 September, and will transfer to Leicester Curve Theatre where it will run from 11 to 29 October.
