International Dance Festival Hits Birmingham

Driven by Dance xchange and Birmingham Hippodrome, IDFB 2010 will see a host of international choreographers, performances and participatory events descend on the UK’s second city.

The festival will begin this April, running from the 19th through to the 15th of May, spreading throughout various venues in the region. Main performance venues include Birmingham Hippodrome, the biggest selling venue for dance outside London, Birmingham REP, and The Patrick Centre, as well as public settings such as The Bull Ring and Victoria Square.

Visits from over 25 companies representing 20 companies across the globe include a rarely performed piece from Mark Morris Dance Group, Deborah Colker’s ‘Cruel’, and Ballet Nacional De Cuba starring the world famous ballet tour-de-force, Carlos Acosta.

Talking about this year’s festival David Massingham, Artistic Director of DanceXchange and Co-Artistic Director of IDFB 2010, said: “Once again Birmingham will be showcasing some of the finest international talent from a broad range of dance styles; whether ballet, flamenco, contemporary, ballroom, street or jazz, there’s something for everyone. This year’s event represents over 20 countries from across six continents, reinforcing Birmingham’s growing reputation as a world stage.”

Tickets are now on sale for what promises to be one of the most exciting, and varied dance festivals in the country.
