Charley's rich Aunt, Dona Lucia, is visiting from Brazil (where the nuts come from!). The timing couldn't be better. Her presence as a chaperone will allow him and his friend Jack to invite their respective true loves, Amy and Kitty, for luncheon to ask for their hands in marriage. Time is ticking, Amy is soon to leave for Scotland, but where is Charley's Aunt? On learning she is delayed by several days, scuppering their romantic plans, they blackmail their eccentric friend, Lord Fancourt Babberley, to pose as Dona Lucia. Chaos ensue as the imposter Aunt is courted by Jack's father and Amy's guardian. And then Charlie's real Aunt arrives...
When a theatre is 'dark' it means that it is closed. This may be temporary, e.g. between shows, or it may be semi-permanent, e.g. when it is closed for refurbishment (sometimes it is uncertain when this happens whether it will actually open again) and sometimes it means that the theatre is completely out to action, lost or gone!
Love from a Stranger is a blood-curdling drama about frustrated spinster Alix King who has been engaged for years to Dick. Dependable but dull, Dick refuses to marry Alix until he can support her. When Alix unexpectedly inherits a fortune Dick is too proud to accept sharing it. Then along comes a stranger. Handsome, successful and just that little bit dangerous, Gerald sweeps her off her feet. Before you know it they are married and move into Philomel Cottage. All too soon their happiness begins to disintegrate. Strange things begin to happen and Alix suspects that the man she rushed into marrying may not be what he seems to be. And who knows, maybe Alix has some dark secrets of her own. This chilling thriller is a must for all Christie fans - full of twists and turns as it builds to a surprising and murderous denouement.
Richard Digance was one of the great folk entertainers of the 70's along with Billy Connolly and Jasper Carrott. His long career has been acknowledged through numerous awards within both the music and entertainment industries, from a BAFTA nomination as a television entertainer to a Gold Award from The British Academy of Composers and Songwriters in 2003 along with Midge Ure and Sir Cliff Richard. He has supported Steve Martin in the USA and Robin Williams at the London Palladium and is included in the Virgin Anthology of Songwriters for his important contribution to British comedy song writing. The Sunday People voted him one of the Magnificent Seven of Comedy alongside the likes of Tommy Cooper and Bob Monkhouse.
Nostalgic comedy recreates the characters of this hilarious sit-com. An un-named northern university town is home to Rupert Rigsby, landlord of arguably the seediest, most run-down boarding house that England has to offer. His unlucky tenants include Ruth Jones, an administrator at the university, Alan, a medical student, and Philip, who is studying town and country planning. Between them, Alan and Philip are the focus and foil of the majority of Rigsby's many prejudices, usually at the expense of his dignity and standing in the eyes of Miss Jones, with whom he is hopelessly and pathetically in love.
Mistaken identity, lust and class are at the heart of this classic comedy set in the rustic England of the 1760s. Sub-titled The Mistakes of a Night. A rich handsome single man, Marlow, is very good at chatting up barmaids, but bashful in front of society ladies. The he falls for Miss Kate Hardcastle and things start to go wrong when his friend persuade him that her family home is in fact the local inn!
