WHAT IS IT ABOUT?
The Misanthrope is set in the celebrity world of the arts and media. The play revolves around Alceste who hates hypocrisy and whose determination to tell the truth becomes as destructive as his friends' instinct to avoid it.
Master wordsmith Roger McGough dips his quill into a Moliere classic in this mockery of manners and morals set amid 17th century French aristocracy. Considered by many to be Moliere's best work, The Misanthrope joins the creative forces of McGough, director Gemma Bodinetz and English Touring Theatre.
