Kneehigh, the Cornish company behind West End productions Brief Encounter and The Umbrellas of Cherbourg, are adapting Daphne Du Maurier's classic Rebecca for a UK tour.

Opening next month, the production is directed by Kneehigh's award-winning artistic director Emma Rice, and features a cast led by Tristan Sturrock as Maxim de Winter and Emily Raymond as Mrs Danvers.

The story, which was adapted into an Oscar-winning film by Alfred Hitchcock, follows Maxim de Winter who, following the mysterious death of his first wife, returns to the Manderley estate with his new young bride.

Surrounded by memories of the glamorous Rebecca, the new Mrs De Winter is consumed by jealousy and sets out to uncover the secrets of the house and a past fiercely guarded by the sinister housekeeper Mrs Danvers.

The cast also includes Richard Clews, Katy Owen, Ewan Wardrop, Andy Williams, Lizzie Winkler and newcomer Imogen Sage as Mrs de Winter.

Rebecca is a Theatre Royal Plymouth production, presented by award-winning producers David Pugh and Dafydd Rogers in association with Steve and Jenny Wiener.
