Matthew Bourne tours Lord of the Flies next year
Matthew Bourne is staging a new national tour of his dance adaptation of Lord of the Flies next year.
Adapted and directed by Bourne and Scott Ambler, Lord of the Flies is based on the classic novel by William Golding, shifting the action from an abandoned island to an abandoned theatre.
Ambler will choreograph the new production with a cast of New Adventures dancers and young talent chosen from each region the tour visits.
The creative team also consists of set and costume design by Olivier Award-winner Lez Brotherston, music by Terry Davies, lighting design by Chris Davey and sound desigaln by Paul Groothuis.
After premiering at the Lowry Theatre, Salford, the show will travel to a number of venues including Plymouth Theatre Royal, Birmingham Hippodrome, Glasgow Theatre Royal, Liverpool Empire and Sadler's Wells, ending its run at Bradford Alhambra on 6 December 2014.
Lord of the Flies – which was first staged by Bourne in 2011 – tells the story of a group boys deserted on an island without any adults. The abandoned boys begin to create their own civilisation with their own rules, but conflict soon arises and ends in a shocking climax.
Bourne, whose award-winning credits include Swan Lake and Play Without Words, has also revealed plans to revive his productions of The Car Man and Edward Scissorhands.
