Nuffield announces Autumn Childrens Season
The Nuffield Theatre, Southampton, has announced a sensational selection of Saturday children’s shows to delight and entertain the little ones this autumn!
The new season bursts into life with Long Nose Puppets’ new show Penguin (11 Sep), a spectacular theatre experience based on the award-winning book by Polly Dunbar. This charmingly simple tale of friendship is exciting, surreal and full of surprises!
Did Cinderella just lock her glass slippers away in a cupboard? Theatr Iolo’s delightful production tells the tale of Cinderella’s slippers after the ball in Whose Shoes? (18 Sep).
The award winning Idol Rich bring the ancient tales of Aesop to life using wonderful puppets, lively music and the help of your imagination in Forest of Fables (25 Sep) and Objects Dart present Stories on a Shoestring (2 Oct) , an enchanting show that uses everyday objects such as buckets, umbrellas and pegs to create inspiring little puppets that can run, jump, dance and go on all kinds of adventures!
Why not listen to the gentle rhythm of the big bass drum and watch the shadows dancing on the surface of the small drums in Oily Cart’s Drum (9 Oct), a wonderful new multi-sensory and interactive adventure for babies and toddlers and their grown up companions!
Breath-taking puppets and live music create an unforgettable experience of magical theatre in Malina’s Dream (16 Oct) from Angel Heart Theatre, and Krazy Kat present an imaginative and unpredictable storytelling extravaganza with magic tricks, original music, silly puppets and a rather cross giant in Growing, Growing, Gone (23 Oct).
Don’t miss The Nuffield Studio transformed into the blitz-ravaged Britain of 1942 in Blitz (30 & 31 Oct), a unique participatory experience from The Nuffield Theatre Company. No two performances will be the same as the children are placed in role as evacuees, fleeing enemy bombs as they board a train bound for the countryside. Immersed in this world they must navigate their new life – a life of rations, gas masks, strange new sights and a very different experience of school.
Tell Tale Hearts’ production From Here to There (6 Nov) is full of the joy of building and knocking down, and of climbing over and crawling under for little ones, while Tam Tam Theatre invite their young audience on a discovery journey into the world of sound in SOUNDS LIKE (13 Nov).
Everybody knows that Koalas are just about the cutest critters alive, but the rolling Hampshire hills are a long way from their scorching Australian home, and so getting to see one can be a little bit tricky… Written especially for parents to enjoy with their children, the last Saturday show of the season, How the Koala Learned to Hug (20 Nov), is a charming tale filled with all the wonders of the land down under.
And finally, the magical, the mystical and the miserly come to The Nuffield stage this Christmas, in Dickens’ heart warming family favourite A Christmas Carol (25 Nov – 8 Jan), a joyous tale, and HUGE FUN for children and grown-ups of all ages, with a chance to join in if you like, and a prize for the Dad with the best Christmas hat!
