Stepping Out launches Pavilion summer season in Bournemouth

The Bournemouth Pavilion launches its summer season next week with the 25th anniversary touring production of Stepping Out, starring Bournemouth’s own Anita Harris, and Coronation Street’s Brian Capron.

Stepping Out has delighted audiences for a quarter of a century, with its heart-warming and timelessly funny story which proves that in dancing, as in life, it’s always better to follow your own tune. It is certain to delight early season visitors!

Other highlights of the season include Joseph and the Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat, The Sound of Music and That’ll Be The Day, together with a variety of one-nighters and concerts, including former king-of-the-jungle Joe Pasquale, and Torchwood’s John Barrowman.

At the nearby BIC, there is a week long run of Strictly Come Dancing – The Professionals (See Review 1 June 2010) in July, and concerts featuring the likes of the Pet Shop Boys, Ricky Gervais, Jimmy Carr, and Jane McDonald.

Like other seaside resorts, Bournemouth theatres have struggled in recent years to attract the dwindling tourist market, and the days of the lavish summer-long big name shows pulling in the crowds night after night are long past. However, with its varied programme of live performances changing throughout the season, it is hoped that the Pavilion and BIC will attract local and regional audiences, as well as the transient population.

Stepping Out plays at the Pavilion Theatre, Bournemouth 15 – 19 June 2010
