Lloyd Webber’s Travels With My Cello For Poole

Renowned cellist Julian Lloyd Webber goes on a unique musical journey through his amazing career at Lighthouse, Poole’s Centre for the Arts on March 4th as part of a tour celebrating his 60th birthday on April 14th.

In words and live performance Julian Lloyd Webber explores his collaborations with an extraordinary array of musicians from Yehudi Menuhin, Joaquin Rodrigo and Georg Solti to Stephane Grappelli, Elton John and Cleo Laine. With Pam Chowhan at the piano Julian will play a selection of his favourite pieces interspersed with anecdotes about his musical life, with visual clips.

Widely regarded as one of the most creative musicians of his generation, Julian won a scholarship to the Royal College of Music when he was sixteen and completed his studies in Geneva with the renowned French cellist, Pierre Fournier. Since then he has collaborated with an extraordinary array of musicians.

As well as making many outstanding recordings, including Brit-Award winning Elgar Concerto conducted by Yehudi Menuhin Julian has premiered more than fifty new works for cello and inspired new compositions from composers as diverse as Malcolm Arnold and Joaquin Rodrigo to James MacMillan and Philip Glass. His most recent recordings – on EMI Classics – include Phantasia, based on brother Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Phantom of the Opera and featuring violinist Sarah Chang and Unexpected Songs.

Despite his crowded schedule Julian also chairs ‘In Harmony’ – the project which aims to bring music to some of England’s poorest communities.
