John Mayall was, as a child, influenced by such greats as Leadbelly, Albert Ammons, Pinetop Smith, and Eddie Lang. From the age of 13 he taught himself to play and develop his own style with the aid of a neighbour's piano, borrowed guitars, and secondhand harmonicas. John met his soulmate in Eric Clapton, who had quit the Yardbirds in favour of playing the blues. This historic union culminated in the first hit album for John’s band, the Bluesbreakers, and resulted in worldwide legendary status. A succession of great musicians defined their artistic roots under John's leadership, and he became well known for discovering new talent. As sidemen left to form their own groups, others took their places. Peter Green, John McVie and Mick Fleetwood became Fleetwood Mac. Andy Fraser formed Free, and Mick Taylor joined the Rolling Stones. As Eric Clapton has stated, "John Mayall has actually run an incredibly great school for musicians."
Jon has become the stand out performer of his generation of traditional folk artists, but one whose repertoire extends far beyond the boundaries of the genre. After 12 years as lead singer of Bellowhead, a quarter of a million album sales, seven singles on the Radio 2 playlist and selling out hundreds of venues throughout the land and beyond, including notably the Royal Albert Hall, Jon announced in 2015 that he wanted to move on. The rest of the band decided not to continue without him. Bellowhead played their final gig on 1 May 2016.
Jon is best known as the lead singer of the progressive folk big band Bellowhead, who split in May 2016, and he is touring for the first time performing entirely solo, presenting the self-penned songs of Painted Lady, material from Bellowhead, Spiers & Boden, Songs From The Floodplain, and his A Folk Song A Day project, in which he recorded 365 folk songs in one year.

Come and see what Jon Richardson can do with words when he has more than thirty seconds to work with. Or should that be "with which to work"?
