Fourth Monkey at the Edinburgh Fringe

With their reputation as “a tour de force on the fringe” Remotegoat, Fourth Monkey return to the Edinburgh Festival off the back of their 2010 sell-out run of A Clockwork Orange.

The ensemble Company of 50 actors bring their brand of “bold, challenging work” to the 2012 Fringe in the form of 6 new pieces playing in rep. The season, which runs from 3rd-25th August at theSpaceUK on Niddry Street, includes a new adaptation of Angela Carter’s Nights at the Circus and OffWestEnd award nominated 4.48 Psychosis, Sarah Kane’s contemporary classic.

Elephant Man
The most tragic, painful yet beautiful of life stories, Elephant Man tells the story of Joseph Merrick as never told before; the life of the Victorian freak show and scientific marvel is brought, in an uncompromising manner, to the stage.

Nights at the Circus
Reporter Jack Walser is on a mission to expose Fevvers, the winged aerialist, as a fake. But will he emerge from the circus unscathed? Angela Carter's classic novel receives a new reworking from critically acclaimed Fourth Monkey. This new adaptation of Carter's literary masterpiece makes its premiere at the Fringe with this engaging and visceral circus experience.

Following their critically acclaimed, 5 Star run in spring, Fourth Monkey transfer their OffWestEnd nominated version of Sarah Kane's iconic and poetic contemporary classic to the Edinburgh Fringe. Divine Words
Valle-Inclan's classic peasant play is given a fresh re-working by the Fourth Monkey ensemble. A grotesque and darkly comic masterpiece Divine Words is a tale of repression and desperation as the wonderful array of characters reach longingly toward the ladder to lift them from their dirty pit.

Minotaur
Daedalus, sculptor and virtuoso, arrives in King Minos' Kingdom under the shadow of darkness. Under the command of the god Poseidon, the Queen mates with a bull and gives birth to a beast. The Minotaur. King Minos insists the sculptor Daedalus build a great Labyrinth to conceal the animal. All must avoid Minos' rage at his wife's infidelity with the bull. If only Daedalus and his son Icarus had wings to fly this oppressive land…
