HOW TO ADD A PRESS RELEASE TO WHATSONSTAGE.COM
Try as we might, our small in-house editorial team can't phyically cover everything we'd like to. But now you can make sure our audience still hears all about your news by submitting your press releases directly onto Whatsonstage.com. It's quick, easy and cheap - and it guarantees you coverage on the UK’s most popular theatre website. If you already know what you're doing, click here to post your release. If you're new to this, then please read the instructions below.
Step 1: Find your show
We list every professional theatrical venue in the country and as many of the shows performed in those venues as possible.
- Click here and search to find your show or theatre within our normal listings. (FOR EDINBURGH LISTINGS - WHICH ARE HANDLED VIA A SEPARATE DATABASE - SEE BELOW.)
- On the appropriate page, you'll see that we have published up to three Listings Codes (pictured right). There's an L code for this specific production at this venue, a T code if the production is part of a tour and a V code for the venue. These can be found towards the bottom of the content on the page.
IMPORTANT: When posting your press release for a show that is in our listings database, you will need your listings codes. These codes ensure your release is seen in the maximum number of appropriate places on the website.
What if your show is at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival?
- If your show is at the Edinburgh Fringe, this is served via a separate database - licensed to us via the Festival Labs (which means, if it's on EdFringe.com, we've got it too) - with a slightly different listings code format. To find your Edinburgh show listings code, please search the listings on our dedicated festival microsite at www.whatsonstage.com/edinburgh.
What if you can’t find your show in either listings database?
- We try to be as comprehensive as possible, but we aren't able to list everything and cannot commit to listing your show if it is not already in our database and/or at a theatre in our year-round register. You can, however, still post your releases into the main Press Release section and also onto the relevant regional and genre sections, such as Off-West End and Dance, by adding your release to the appropriate section.
- If your show is in a venue we do list (look out for the VCODE) but we haven't added your production yet then DON'T PANIC, you have probably just beaten us to it. Using the VCODE will ensure that your press release appears on the venue page and will alert our listings people to add your show onto the database. You can then check back in a couple of days to see if we have updated the show listing information for that theatre. If we have, you can then edit your release posting to include the LCODE.
- If your production is on at a theatre which regularly hosts professional performances but is not on our database, then please inform us using the form on this page.
